Excel Contracting performed a major addition/renovation to my home in 2019, adding multiple new rooms, porches and decks to a 35 year-old house. I worked primarily with Jen Adams on the project and was extremely pleased at the quality of all aspects of the renovation – from architecture to framing to finish. Jen has a great team that seems to take pride in the results of their work. (My past experience with other Outer Banks contractors has shown that this isn't always the case.) As a remote owner who could only occasionally visit the house during the renovation, communication and trust were very important and Jen did an exceptional job in both areas. Whether good or bad (there were challenges created by applying modern code requirements to an old house), she always kept me in the loop by discussing options, providing status updates and sending progress pictures. After a hurricane hit at the end of the project, she checked on the house within hours of its passing and let me know that everything was fine. I always felt I could trust her to ensure that even the smallest details were done with high quality. As a result, the final "punch list" had very few items and none of any consequence. Jen was also very helpful in the design process and I trusted her to make decisions for things like fixtures and carpeting. I would highly recommend Excel for any build or renovation work on the Outer Banks.

Jennifer Adams with Excel Contracting built my house a year ago. She was very easy to work with, made great suggestions and she had a great working relationship with her subcontractors. Jennifer was very honest in stating her opinions when asked and she always steered me in the right direction. I highly recommend Jennifer as a builder and have done so to several people.

We met Jennifer through our architect in August 2017. Broke ground on our home in Duck, NC the end of January 2018. From day one, she gave us a great sense of comfort with her professional suggestions and by listening to our personal requests. Living in another state was a slight concern to us at first, thinking it would be difficult not being present to see the weekly progress or to problem solve. Jennifer proved herself quickly and eased that worry. She sent weekly pictures and was always available to communicate via phone calls, texts and emails… sometimes multiple times per day. She was on time for any meeting and was very mindful of keeping the project on task for completion and within our budget. Any local vendor we dealt with, flooring, decking, pool etc., they all had wonderful things to say about Excel Contracting. It was evident Jennifer had a great reputation in the area.

Mostly, we were impressed with her relationships with all her subcontractors. She was able to hire some of the best crews in the OBX. They were very loyal to her and respected her knowledge of their trade. She expected high quality work and they delivered. As the months went on, we would hear from some of them how much they enjoyed working with her. She paid them on time, she would help unload or load their trucks, sweep and clean up the sawdust, load the dumpster with debris, etc. However, if she was unhappy with anything, they knew it. She would stand her ground as the boss but be willing to jump in with a helping hand if needed. We believe the workmen really valued her work ethic and ability to set the tone for a pleasant working environment.

In all, Jennifer made our dream home a reality. The attention to detail she gave our house made it an award- winning showplace. (Parade of Homes 2018) We appreciated her being a perfectionist and enjoyed her jovial personality. You won't be disappointed in choosing Excel Contracting!

Anne and I want to thank you for building the house of our dreams. Even after living in the house for an entire summer, I still marvel at the house every time I pull into the driveway. Early on, before we had signed the construction agreement, you said that I was going to love working with you. And I have to say, with the benefit of two years experience, you were absolutely right.
